Honeymoon Destination Information

Dear Honey,
I have my heart set on having a weddingmoon on a tropical beach somewhere at sunset, but my fiance says that foreign places have too many legal requirements and that our marriage may not be valid - is that true?
- Charla K., Grand Rapids, MI

Dear Charla,
Yes and no.  Everywhere you go, whether inside or outside of the U.S., will naturally have some legal requirements, but as long as you meet those requirements then your marriage will be perfectly legal and recognized everywhere.  It's true that some places DO have pretty stringent requirements (such as a 30 day residency requirement in the Tahitian islands), so those places may offer a "blessing ceremony" only that does not constitute a legal marriage (great for renewing your vows though), however, there are a great many places that have some very easy-to-comply-with requirements, so you shouldn't have any trouble choosing a beautiful tropical location for your dream weddingmoon.  Be sure to look at the Island Wedding Requirements and Mexico Wedding Requirements pages at Honeymoons-By-Sunset.com, and don't forget to check with your Honeymoon Consultant to be sure you fully understand the requirements of your chosen weddingmoon destination, or to enable you to choose your destination based on the requirements.

Best regards,
Honey

Preparing The Perfect Packing List
Some people are blessed with superb organizational skills. No matter where they go they are always prepared for everything. With their help we're able to provide some Packing Tips and a Packing List on our website, but to truly prepare a packing list that is perfect for the trip you'll be taking, start first by taking these issues into consideration;
  • The weather at your destination - warm or cool?  Dry or humid?  Nightime lows vs. daytime highs?  Keep in mind that lighter layers are more versatile than bulky items;
  • How long is your trip, and will you have opportunities for washing your clothes?  You may want to consider items that can be easily washed in your bathroom sink and which will dry quickly overnight;
  • What activities do you plan to engage in?  You wouldn't want to book time on the tennis court and then discover that you've forgotten your tennis shoes!
  • Do you plan to dine at an upscale restaurant or visit local attractions that may have dress codes?  Especially in other countries, where many places of worship, museums, etc. require that arms and legs, and sometimes your head, be covered, or where local customs dictate appropriate dress;
  • Availability of common services and amenities - will you be able to purchase necessary items close by, and for reasonable prices, if you run out of film, toothpaste, sunscreen, etc?   In big cities you'll be able to replenish easily, but in some tourist areas, it might be expensive, and in some places, not available;
  • Do you speak the local language fluently?  Although it's common for resort staff to be somewhat fluent in English, if you plan to get out and explore you'll want a phrasebook to get by - and by making an effort to speak their language you'll often gain the respect of the locals and make new friends as well!

  • Remember that your Honeymoon Consultant can help you plan your trip details in advance, so that you'll be able to plan your packing requirements in plenty of time to ensure a nearly stress-free honeymoon or weddingmoon!
