The wait is almost over.....Queen Mary 2 is ready for her Maiden Caribbean Voyage
It’s been five years since plans for ‘Project Queen Mary’ were unveiled on a summer’s day in Oslo. Milestone after milestone, excitement has been building ever since. It is now just weeks before the largest, longest, tallest, widest and grandest ocean liner ever built sails into her home port of Southampton for the very first time. The provisional date for her arrival is Friday 26 December 2003.
Cunard Line is delighted that Her Majesty The Queen will name Queen Mary 2 at an historic ceremony to take place in Southampton on Thursday 8 January 2004. Her Majesty will be accompanied by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. Then, on Monday 12 January, Queen Mary 2 will embark on her 14 day maiden voyage from Southampton to Fort Lauderdale.
On QM2’s first Caribbean cruise, she’ll call on old San Juan where Spanish galleons found refuge beneath the mighty El Morro Fortress. St. Kitts will salute our royal Queen from Brimstone Hill, and in Martinique, school children with a Creole accent sing La Marseillaise. St. Lucia’s towering Pitons create a dramatic backdrop for QM2. Barbados gives her an all-out Bajan welcome, and Dominica and St. Thomas round out her Caribbean coronet.
With a passenger capacity of 2,620, QM2's sheer size allows the creation of a variety of passenger spaces. This in turn allows for a world of diversity. Athletes will find one of the best-equipped playing fields anywhere. Sybarites can enjoy the rejuvenating treatments of the world-renowned Canyon Ranch SpaClub®. If you're into health and fitness, there's a state-of-the-art gym including a separate weight room. Or how about a visit to the planetarium? A wine tasting seminar? Or a walk down history lane at the Maritime Quest Exhibit? QM2's is a veritable City at SeaSM , with everything from virtual reality golf, a basketball court to a book shop… even a kennel so you can bring your best friend along.
QM2 was designed to accommodate all the ages. For guests who wish to take their children or grandchildren along, The Play Zone is like a well-run camp for children 2 - 7 years old. A separate facility, The Zone, provides hours of supervised entertainment and activities for children 8- 12 years old. The area includes the Minnows splash pool and real English nannies for the toddlers. And it's equipped with an array of toys and activities from board games to computer terminals with all kinds of learning adventures, so that while kids are doing their thing, adults have some quality time alone.
